The Storm Chase Manual written by Tim Marshall
with illustrations by David Hoadley. This is the fourth edition of the Storm Chase Manual. The manual was initially started in 1979 when Tim Marshall was at Texas Tech University as part of the Tornado Intercept team. Tim has updated the manual considerably since then. The deployment of doppler radar and advancements in computer technology have brought tons of real time data to the storm chaser. Before setting out to chase storms, it is important to have knowledge about them. This revised manual is larger and incorporates a lot of new material. It provides detailed information on chase planning, how to organize a chase team and divide tasks, storm documentation, thunderstorm development, field strategy, the tornado and its life cycle, observational tips, photography techniques, safety rules, a summary of forecasting techniques and information on post-storm damage investigation. If you want to chase storms, then you must own the Storm Chase Manual! Storm Chase Manual - $20.00US postage paid (ppd) |

Tornado Talk written by Tim Marshall with
illustrations by David Hoadley This is the latest edition of Tim's original book titled Storm Talk. In this softbound edition, Tim adds more discussion to certain items, eliminates redundant terms, drops the less common slang and makes major corrections to the text. He also tailors the work solely for tornado chasing by eliminating most of the tropical, coastal, and other mid-latitude storm terms. Also, numerous figures not directly related to tornado chasing are eliminated. Thus, he names this fine work Tornado Talk. This is not another list of terms. Tim discusses the relevance of the term to storm formation. After all, one may know the definition of positive vorticity advection but not know how in the world this relates to storms. Tim provides an expanded glossary with the hope that we can all understand each other. Tim also uses idealized storm sketches instead of photographs to illustrate terms. Storm artist David Hoadley effectively explains many terms visually with his expert illustrations. If you are interested in storm chasing, then you must have your own copy of Tornado Talk.
